Bill Goldner
Bill Goldner is the Senior Advisor at Renewable Energy, Natural Resources, and Environment at USDA Office of the Chief Scientist. Before this Dr. Bill Goldner served as the Acting Division Director and continues to serve as National Program Leader for Biomass Development and Production Systems, Division of Sustainable Bioenergy in the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) Institute for Bioenergy, Climate, and Environment. Bill had responsibility for managing the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative Regional Bioenergy Coordinated Agricultural Project (CAP) Program. In 2010-12, 2013 the AFRI Bioenergy CAP program funded nine of the largest R&D projects ever competitively awarded by USDA, totaling $186 M over five years. Bill has assumed responsibility as USDA co-lead for the Joint USDA/Department of Energy (DOE) Bioenergy Feedstock Genomics Program. In addition to his role as National Program Leader, Dr. Goldner provides leadership and participates in strategic planning in related intra- and interagency activities.
Prior to joining USDA in 1999, he worked as a: research scientist and project manager in the sugarcane and forest products industries; technical strategy manager for applied genetics in the crop protection industry; and associate professor on the adjunct faculty of the Graduate Program in Plant Biology at Rutgers University. Dr. Goldner received his PhD in plant physiology (biochemistry and crop development) from The Pennsylvania State University.
