
Chad Bolding
Dr. Chad Bolding is a Professor and Langdale Endowed Chair in the Harley Langdale Jr. Center
for Forest Business at the University of Georgia. He has a B.S. and M.S. in forestry from
Auburn University, and an M.F in silviculture and Ph.D. in forest engineering from Oregon State
University. Before joining the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources in 2022 he was
Professor of Forest Operations/Engineering at Virginia Tech for 14 years and Clemson
University for 2 years. Chad teaches graduate courses in forest business and conducts research
related to supply chain management, harvesting system feasibility, transportation and logistics,
biomass utilization, and forestry best management practices. His goal as a forester and scientist is
to solve applied, industry relevant, problems that will aid in advancing efficiency, profitability,
and environmental sustainability. He has received numerous teaching and mentoring awards
including the 2022 Carl Alwin Schenck Award for Outstanding Teaching in Forestry which is a
national award presented by the Society of American Foresters. He has published 77 peerreviewed journal articles, completed 34 graduate students, and secured over $25 million in
research grants and contracts. In addition to teaching and research he is active in professional
organizations such as the Society of American Foresters, the Georgia Forestry Association, and
the Council on Forest Engineering. He serves as Associate Editor of Forest Science in the areas
of Harvesting, Engineering, and Utilization. He also serves as Associate Editor of the
International Journal of Forest Engineering.
